Every club in WithWine has a Selection method, which decides who chooses the wines and what starts each club run. There are three selection methods. In this help centre we also call them Fixed Release, Editable Release and Subscription.
Wines selected by winery each club run – Winery initiated (Fixed Release)
This is the default selection method. Nothing happens until you start a club run. You decide when each club run happens and exactly which wines go in it.
When you start the club run and click the button to process it, WithWine charges every club member straight away, emails their receipts, creates their orders and records the stock movements. Club members have no input into the wines.
Wines selected by customer each club run – Winery initiated (Editable Release)
You start each club run. For the club run, you choose which wines members can choose from, a charge date, and a default pack that members get if they don't make their own selection by the charge date.
When you click the button to start the club run, WithWine emails every club member, and the countdown to the charge date begins. Members can change their wines until the charge date. On the charge date, members are charged for their selection, or for the default pack if they didn't choose.
Wines selected by customer at signup – System initiated (Subscription)
A Subscription club is sometimes called a standing order or recurring order club. When a customer joins, they choose their wines from the selection you offer, and, if you let them, how many bottles and how often. After that, WithWine charges them automatically on their schedule, for the price of the wines they chose, less their member discount. You don't need to start club runs.
The main difference
Fixed Release: you click the button and everyone is charged straight away.
Editable Release: you click the button and members are emailed; they're charged on the charge date.
Subscription: there's no button; members are charged automatically on their schedule.
Where to set the club type
Go to Settings > Clubs, open or add a club, and choose the Selection method. The fields on the club form change depending on the selection method you choose.
