A coupon code gives customers a discount on their order, a free or cheaper product, cheaper shipping, or a mix of these. You create coupon codes in Settings > Coupons.
WithWine coupons are flexible: one coupon can combine several rules. For example, "buy any 12 bottles including 6 Shiraz, get 15% off the Shiraz and free shipping, until the end of the month" is a single coupon.
What a coupon can give
A product discount (Discount type): a percentage off, a dollar amount off, or a fixed price for a number of products, such as a free bottle. See What are the coupon discount types?
A shipping discount (Shipping discount type): free shipping, a flat shipping rate, or a percentage off shipping. See How to give free or cheaper shipping with a coupon
Both in the same coupon.
Rules you can add
Required Products in Order and Minimum Required Product Quantity: the coupon only works when the cart has enough of certain products. See How to make a coupon that only works with certain products
Applies To Products: which products get the discount. This can be different from the required products, for example a free Rosé when the customer buys 6 Shiraz.
Minimum Order Bottle Quantity and Minimum Order Total: the coupon only works on bigger orders. See How to set a minimum quantity or minimum spend on a coupon
Active?: start and end dates, so the coupon switches on and off by itself. See How to make a coupon stop automatically
Redemption count: how many times the coupon can be used in total, or by each customer.
Channel and Customer Pricing Group: only certain sales channels or customer groups can use the coupon. See How to limit a coupon to certain customers or sales channels
Auto apply: the coupon applies without the customer entering the code. See How do auto apply and combining coupons work?
Allow combining with other coupons: whether the coupon can be used with other coupons on the same order.
Applies to Already Discounted Prices: whether the coupon also comes off prices that are already discounted, such as club prices. See What does Applies to Already Discounted Prices do on a coupon?
How WithWine decides the price
WithWine always gives the customer the cheapest price they're entitled to, product by product. A coupon competes with the customer's other prices, such as the club discount, a 6-bottle price or a customer group price. If the coupon doesn't give a cheaper price, the customer keeps the price they already had and the coupon shows no discount.
The exception is Applies to Already Discounted Prices set to Yes: then the coupon comes off the already discounted price, so the customer gets both discounts.
Where customers use coupon codes
Customers enter coupon codes at checkout on your website and in the WithWine app. Staff can enter a coupon code on a back office order, in the Enter Coupon (Optional) box of the Create Order panel.
Be careful with
Coupons can be fully automated, which also means a mistake can give away more than you meant. Most unexpected discounts come from:
Applies to Already Discounted Prices set to Yes, so club members get their club discount plus the coupon.
Auto apply set to Yes on a coupon that should only be used with a code.
Allow combining with other coupons set to Yes, so customers stack several coupons.
No end date and no redemption limit, so an old promotion keeps running.
We recommend giving every coupon an end date (Active until) or a redemption limit. See Why did a customer get a bigger discount than expected?
