A customer group is a set of customers that WithWine works out from rules you choose, such as a tag on their profile, membership of a club, or being on your mailing list. You can then give that group its own prices, shipping rates, coupons and loyalty tiers.
You set up customer groups in Settings > Customer Groups.
How customer groups work
Groups are rules, not lists. You don't add customers to a group one by one. You choose rules, and every customer who matches the rules is in the group.
Membership is checked live, at every order. If you add a tag to a customer, they get that group's prices on their very next order. Remove the tag and they stop getting them.
Groups work everywhere you sell: your website (when the customer is logged in), the WithWine app, Vintner at the cellar door and back office (phone) orders. In Vintner, adding a tag to the customer during a sale recalculates their prices straight away.
The customer always gets the cheapest price they're entitled to. If a customer is in two groups with different prices, or also gets a club discount or a sale price, WithWine uses whichever is lowest. See How product pricing works
Rules you can use
Subscribed to Mailing List: only customers on your mailing list.
Any Customer or Club Member, Club Members (of one or more clubs you pick) or Not Club Members.
Tags: customers with all of the tags you pick (Matching All Tags), at least one of them (Matching Any Tags), or none of them (Without Tags).
Where you can use customer groups
Product prices: a special price for the group on any wine, mix or other product. See How to give a customer group its own price for a product
Club pricing by wine: different club prices on different wines, instead of one blanket club discount. See How to give club members different prices on different wines
Coupons: a coupon code that only the group can use. See How to limit a coupon to a customer group
Shipping rates: a shipping rate just for the group. See How to set a shipping rate for a customer group
Loyalty tiers: limit a loyalty tier to the group, or stop the group earning loyalty credit. See How to include or exclude a customer group from a loyalty tier
Examples
Locals: tag local customers "Local" and give them locals' pricing.
Club pricing per wine: club members get 10% off some wines, 20% off others and no discount on the rest.
Mailing list perks: "Join our mailing list and get 10% off", with a coupon code only subscribers can use.
Trade or staff: tag trade customers or staff, give them their own prices or shipping, and keep them out of your loyalty program.
Why customer groups are useful
One rule drives everything. Tag a customer once and they get the right prices, shipping, coupons and loyalty treatment in every channel, without separate products, price lists or codes to manage. Because groups are checked live, they stay up to date as your customers' tags and club memberships change.
