How to give a customer group its own price for a product

Add a price for a customer group, such as locals or trade, in a product's Available Prices.

You can give a customer group its own price for any wine, mix or other product. For example, locals pay $38 for your Shiraz instead of $45, or trade customers pay a wholesale price. You add the price in the product's Available Prices.

Before you start

  • Create the customer group first. See How to create a customer group

  • The product must be listed for sale (List your wine for sale? set to Yes), so that Available Prices shows.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings > Products and choose Bottles, Mixes or Other Products.

  2. Click the product to open it.

  3. In Pricing, find Available Prices.

  4. Click Add Price. A new price row appears.

  5. In the row's Customer Group, choose your group instead of All Customers.

  6. Set the quantity (Quantity Required for bottles and other products, or # of Bottles in Mix for mixes), the Price and, for bottles, the Price Type. These work the same as other prices. See How to offer a 6-bottle price

  7. Click Save.

Which price does the customer get?

WithWine always gives a customer the cheapest price they're entitled to. A customer in the group gets the group price only when it's lower than every other price they qualify for, such as an All Customers sale price, a quantity price, their club discount or a coupon.

For example: full price $45, Locals price $38, Ridge Club discount 20% ($36). A local who is also a Ridge Club member pays $36. A local who isn't in the club pays $38. See How product pricing works

What happens next

  • Customers in the group see the group price on your website (when logged in), in the WithWine app, at the cellar door in Vintner and on back office orders.

  • The group is checked at every order. If you add a tag to a customer, they get the group price on their next order. In Vintner, adding the tag during a sale updates the prices straight away.

Troubleshooting

  • A customer isn't getting the group price: check they match the group's rules (for example, the tag is on their profile), that they're logged in on the website, and that they don't already qualify for a cheaper price.

  • My group isn't in the Customer Group list: check you clicked Save in Settings > Customer Groups, then reload the product.

  • I can't see Available Prices: set List your wine for sale? to Yes.
