How to create a customer group

Create a customer group in Settings > Customer Groups using tags, club membership and mailing list status.

You create customer groups in Settings > Customer Groups. A customer group is a set of rules, such as "tagged Local" or "member of the Ridge Club". Every customer who matches the rules is in the group, and WithWine checks this at every order. See What is a customer group?

Before you start

  • If your group is based on tags, add the tags to your customers first. The tag picker lists the tags you use on your customers. See How to tag customers

  • If your group is based on club membership, set up the club first in Settings > Clubs.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings > Customer Groups.

  2. Click Add Customer Pricing Group. A new row appears.

  3. In Name, type a name you'll recognise, for example Locals or Trade.

  4. Choose the rules under Criteria (see below). Leave a rule at its default if you don't need it.

  5. Click Done. The row shows the group's name and a summary of its rules, for example "With All Tags: Trade".

  6. Click Save at the bottom of the page. The group isn't kept until you click Save.

The rules you can choose

  • Subscribed to Mailing List: tick this to include only customers on your mailing list.

  • Any Customer or Club Member (the default) includes everyone. Club Members includes only club members; a second box then lets you pick which clubs. Not Club Members includes only customers who aren't in a club.

  • Tags: choose Matching All Tags: (customers must have every tag you pick), Matching Any Tags: (at least one of the tags) or Without Tags (none of the tags), then pick the tags in the box below.

  • Rules combine. For example, Club Members of the Ridge Club plus Subscribed to Mailing List means club members who are also subscribed.

Examples

  • Locals: Any Customer or Club Member, Matching All Tags: Local.

  • Ridge Club members: Club Members, Ridge Club.

  • Mailing list subscribers: tick Subscribed to Mailing List, nothing else.

  • Trade: Any Customer or Club Member, Matching All Tags: Trade.

What happens next

  • The group appears in the list with Edit and Delete.

  • You can now choose the group in product prices, coupons, shipping rates and loyalty tiers.

  • Customers move in and out of the group automatically as their tags, club memberships and mailing list status change.

How to change a customer group

  1. Go to Settings > Customer Groups.

  2. Click Edit on the group's row.

  3. Change the name or rules, then click Done.

  4. Click Save.

Troubleshooting

  • My group disappeared after I left the page: click Save at the bottom of the page after Done. Done on its own doesn't save.

  • The tag I want isn’t in the list: add the tag to a customer first, then reload Settings > Customer Groups.

  • The club picker is greyed out: choose Club Members in the box above it first.
