A gift card in WithWine is a product your customers buy and give to someone else, who then spends it with you. Gift cards are purchased credit: the customer pays for the gift card, and the gift card's value can be spent on your products.
What the customer receives
When a customer buys a gift card, WithWine emails the customer a PDF of the gift card. The customer gives the PDF to the person they're buying the gift card for.
The gift card PDF shows a QR code, a numerical gift card code, a redemption link and the gift card's expiry date. The person who receives the gift card uses the QR code, code or link to redeem or spend it. See How customers redeem or spend a gift card.
Where you can sell gift cards
On your website, when the gift card is listed for sale and available online.
At your cellar door, through point of sale (POS). WithWine emails the gift card to the customer, the same as when they buy online.
Gift card value and price
Each gift card has an Amount and a Full Price:
Amount is the value of the gift card, for example $100. This is how much the gift card can be spent on.
Full Price is what the customer pays for the gift card. This is usually the same as the Amount, but can be less. See How to sell a gift card for less than its value.
Gift cards and credit classes
Every gift card belongs to a credit class, which decides what the gift card can be spent on. Most wineries use a credit class that can be spent on everything, such as the Everything credit class. See What is a credit class?.
Digital and physical gift cards
A gift card is digital by default: the customer gets the PDF by email. You can also sell physical gift cards that you print and post. See How to sell physical gift cards.
Gift card expiry
Each gift card is valid for a set number of months from the date it's purchased. In Australia and the United States, the law sets a minimum period. See How long should a gift card be valid for?.
Keep track of your gift card liabilities
When you sell a gift card, the customer has paid you for goods you haven't supplied yet. Keep track of how much unspent gift card value is outstanding, and make sure you always have enough cash to honour the gift cards you've sold. See What are outstanding liabilities?.
