A credit class decides what customers can spend their credit on. Every piece of credit in WithWine belongs to a credit class, including gift cards, manual credit and loyalty credit. You must have at least one credit class before you can use credit.
What a credit class controls
Each credit class has a name and a list of things its credit can be spent on: Wine, Cider, Beer, Spirits, Other products, Shipping, Club runs, Gift cards and Excluded products. Credit can only be spent on the parts of an order that are ticked in its credit class.
The Everything credit class
WithWine gives you a credit class called Everything, with every option ticked. Credit in the Everything credit class can be spent on anything you sell.
Examples of credit classes
Wine dollars: only Wine ticked, so the credit can only be spent on wine.
Shipping dollars: only Shipping ticked, so the credit can only be spent on the shipping part of an order.
Online credit: Wine and Shipping ticked.
Why credit classes exist
Credit classes let you control exactly what your credit can be spent on. For example, if you run a promotion that gives customers $100 of shipping dollars, customers can't spend that credit on $100 of wine.
Changing a credit class
If you edit a credit class, the change also applies to credit customers already have in that credit class. See How to edit a credit class.
How credit is used up
Customers don't have to spend all their credit at once. If a customer has $100 of shipping dollars and the shipping on their order is $20, WithWine uses $20 of the credit. The other $80 stays in the customer's account until the customer spends it or it expires.
