WithWine works out the final price of every product in an order at the checkout. The checkout looks at every price the customer is entitled to and automatically gives the customer the lowest one. You don't need to tell customers which discount to use, and customers don't need to do anything to get their prices, apart from being identified as themselves.
This is why links into the checkout, such as the Cart block in a WithWine email, don't need to show prices. Each customer sees their own correct price when they reach the checkout.
What the checkout takes into account
For each product in the order, the checkout considers:
Available Prices on the product for All Customers, including sale prices.
Quantity prices, such as a price "Each in any 6" or a price "For 6 of this product".
Customer group prices, if the customer belongs to a customer group that has its own price for the product.
The club discount, if the customer is a club member and the product has Allow club discount ticked.
Coupon codes, whether the customer enters a code or the coupon is set to Auto apply.
Shipping is worked out at the checkout too, including any shipping rates for customer groups and any shipping discounts from coupons or club membership.
How the checkout knows who the customer is
The checkout identifies the customer by the customer's email address. When the customer is logged in on your website or in the WithWine app, or you choose the customer in Vintner POS or a back office order, the checkout knows which club memberships, customer groups and coupons apply, and applies the right prices automatically.
If a customer isn't logged in, the checkout can't know the customer is a club member or in a customer group, so the customer sees the prices for everyone until the customer logs in.
The cheapest price wins: prices don't stack
The checkout works out each price separately and gives the customer the cheapest. Discounts aren't added on top of each other, unless a coupon is set up to do that.
Example: Saltbush Ridge Estate's Barossa Valley Shiraz has a full price of $45 and a sale price of $40 for all customers. Ridge Club members get a 20% club discount, which is $36 off the full price. A Ridge Club member is entitled to $45, $40 and $36, so the member pays $36. The member doesn't get 20% off the $40 sale price.
How coupons fit in
An order can use several coupon codes, but only one coupon applies to any one product. The checkout picks the coupon that gives the customer the best price.
A coupon only applies on top of a price that is already discounted (such as a sale price, quantity price, customer group price or club discount) if the coupon's Applies to Already Discounted Prices setting is Yes. Otherwise the coupon price competes with the other prices and the cheapest wins.
If a coupon has expired or the cart doesn't meet the coupon's rules, the coupon isn't applied.
Quantity prices and the whole cart
A quantity price "Each in any 6" counts every bottle in the cart, including other wines and mixes. Once the cart has 6 bottles, the lower price applies to every bottle of that wine, including extra bottles.
Where checkout pricing applies
The same pricing rules apply in every channel: your WithWine website, the WithWine app, Vintner POS and back office orders. Customer group membership is checked on each order, so if you add a tag to a customer in Vintner POS, the prices update straight away.
What this means for you
Set up each price once (product prices, customer groups, club discounts and coupons) and the checkout applies the prices everywhere.
When you promote an offer, you don't have to send different emails to club members and other customers. Each customer gets their own best price at the checkout.
If you quote a price in an email or on your website, make clear who the price applies to, because each customer's final price is worked out at the checkout.
Troubleshooting
A club member or customer group member didn't get their price. Check the customer was logged in, or was chosen on the order, using the email address on the customer's WithWine record. For club discounts, check the product has Allow club discount ticked.
