How to give club members different prices on different wines

Instead of one blanket club discount, use a club member customer group to set a special club price on each wine, or none at all.

Most wine clubs offer one blanket discount, such as "20% off all our wines". You can set that up as the club's discount and untick Allow club discount on the few wines you don't want discounted. See How to choose which wines get the club discount

Some clubs work differently: "Members get 10% off wines A, B and C, 20% off wines D, E and F, and no discount on G, H and I." For that, use a customer group of club members and give each wine its own club price.

How club prices and the club discount work together

WithWine always gives customers the cheapest price they're entitled to. If your club has a blanket discount and a wine also has a club members price, the member gets whichever is cheaper.

For example, a wine is $100 and the club discount is 20% off, so members would pay $80:

  • If the club members price is $90, members pay $80, because the 20% club discount is cheaper. The $90 price is never used.

  • If the club members price is $70, members pay $70, because the club members price is cheaper than the club discount.

So a club members price only works when it's lower than the club discount would give. You have two ways to set this up:

  • Keep the blanket club discount and add club members prices only to wines that should get a bigger discount. For wines that should get a smaller discount or none, untick Allow club discount on the wine, then add a club members price if you want a smaller discount.

  • Remove the blanket club discount in Settings > Clubs and give every discounted wine its own club members price. This is simplest when discounts vary a lot between wines.

Before you start

  • Decide the club price for each wine, and which wines have no club price.

  • Decide whether to keep your blanket club discount (see above).

Step 1: Create a club members customer group

  1. Go to Settings > Customer Groups.

  2. Click Add Customer Pricing Group.

  3. In Name, type a name, for example Ridge Club members.

  4. Change Any Customer or Club Member to Club Members.

  5. In the box below, choose the club or clubs.

  6. Click Done, then Save.

Step 2: Add a club price to each wine

  1. Go to Settings > Products > Bottles and open a wine.

  2. In Pricing, under Available Prices, click Add Price.

  3. Set Customer Group to your club members group, Quantity Required to 1, and Price to the club price, for example $40.50 for 10% off a $45 wine.

  4. If you're keeping a blanket club discount and this wine's club price is a smaller discount than the blanket discount, untick Allow club discount on this wine.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Repeat for each wine that has a club price.

You can add more than one club members price to a wine, for example a lower price for 6 bottles. See How to offer a 6-bottle price

What happens next

  • Club members see the cheapest price they're entitled to on each wine on your website (when logged in), in the WithWine app, in Vintner and on back office orders.

  • New members get club prices from their next order, and members who leave the club stop getting them, because the customer group is checked at every order.

  • Customers who aren't club members keep paying your normal prices.

Troubleshooting

  • Members are getting a bigger discount than the club price: the club's blanket discount is cheaper than the club members price on that wine. Untick Allow club discount on that wine, or remove the blanket club discount.

  • A member isn't getting the club price: check their membership is active in the right club, and that they're logged in on the website.
