What is a venue?

A venue is a physical place where you sell, such as your cellar door or a wine festival. Venues control POS stock, pickups, the WithWine app map and customer visitation data.

A venue is a physical place where you sell with WithWine. A venue can be your cellar door or tasting room, or a pop-up event or wine festival.

What a venue does

  • Point of sale (POS): each POS is logged in to a venue. POS sales at that venue take stock from the venue's stock location.

  • Visitation data: when a POS user sells to a customer at a venue, WithWine records that the customer visited that venue. You can then filter the Customers screen to show people who visited a venue in a date range.

  • Pickups: a venue can be a pickup location for website orders and club orders. Customers choose the venue at website checkout or in the club member portal.

  • WithWine app map: a venue can show as a pin on the map in the WithWine app, with its contact phone and opening hours.

  • Tax and card payments: the venue address is used to calculate tax for in-person and pickup orders. Stripe card terminals won't work at a venue without an address.

Why visitation data matters

Visitation data is one of the most powerful parts of WithWine. Because every POS sale is linked to a venue, you can find the customers who visited a venue in a date range, for example everyone who bought at your cellar door last month, and follow up with them.

How to name your venues

Set up your venues to match how you want to report on customer visits. You can:

  • Use a few broad venues, for example Cellar Door, Wine Festivals and Offsite Events and Wine Dinners.

  • Create a venue for each event, for example Spring Wine Festival 2026.

Broad venues keep your venue list short. A venue for each event lets you see exactly which customers you met at that event.

Venues and stock locations

  • Every venue should be linked to a stock location. POS sales at the venue take stock from that stock location.

  • Several venues can share one stock location.

  • Website orders picked up at a venue take stock from the venue's stock location.

  • Club orders picked up at a venue still take stock from the stock location that has Club Run Orders ticked. All clubs share that stock location.

Third-party venues

Third-party venues are set up by WithWine in partnership with event organisers and wine festivals. If your business is attending one of these events, WithWine adds your business to that third-party venue. You can't add your business to a third-party venue yourself. Third-party venues you've been added to are listed under Third Party Venues on the Venues page.

Where to find your venues

Go to Settings > Venues. The list shows each venue's name and address.
