What is a stock location?

A stock location is a place where you hold stock, such as your cellar door or a warehouse. Learn how WithWine uses stock locations for your website, club runs and POS.

A stock location is a place where you keep stock, such as your cellar door, a warehouse or an offsite storage facility. WithWine uses stock locations to know where to take stock from when you sell something.

Every brand starts with one stock location called Default Stock Location. You can rename it, and you can add more stock locations, for example Warehouse.

Where to find stock locations

Go to Settings > Stock Locations. The list shows each stock location and which sales it supplies:

  • Website: website (eCommerce) orders take stock from this stock location.

  • Club Stock: club runs take stock from this stock location.

  • POS Delivery Stock: POS orders with a delivery address take stock from this stock location.

Which stock location each sale uses

  • Website orders use the one stock location with eCommerce Orders ticked. Only one stock location can have it. The exception is website orders picked up at a venue: they take stock from the venue's stock location.

  • Club runs use the one stock location with Club Run Orders ticked. Only one stock location can have it. Club orders picked up at a venue also take stock from this stock location.

  • POS sales use the stock location linked to the venue the POS is logged into. You link venues to stock locations in Settings > Venues.

  • POS orders with a delivery address use the stock location with POS Delivery Orders ticked, instead of the venue's stock location. Only one stock location can have it.

New brands have eCommerce Orders and Club Run Orders on the Default Stock Location.

Stock locations for third-party venues

WithWine partners with third parties such as event organisers. Their events create third-party venues, and you can allocate one of your stock locations to a third-party venue. These appear under Stock Locations for Third Party Venues on the Stock Locations page, with the Name and Event.

Stock location pools

You'll also see + Add Stock Location Pool on the Stock Locations page. Stock location pools are covered in a separate article.
