To change a customer's email address, you migrate the customer's account to the new email address. Everything on the customer's record (orders, notes, addresses and activity) moves to the new email address. The email address is how WithWine identifies a customer, so you can't just type over the email address.
Before you start
Get the new email address from the customer and check the spelling with them.
If the new email address already belongs to another customer in WithWine, you are merging two accounts. See How to merge two customer accounts into one
Steps
Go to Customers and open the customer's record.
Click the pencil next to the customer's email address (under the customer's name). The Migrate Account to New Email pop-up opens. Current email shows the customer's current address.
Type the new address in New email.
Type the new address again in Re-enter new email.
Leave Allow account migration to an existing customer (i.e. merge accounts) unticked.
Click Migrate.
What happens next
WithWine takes you back to the Customers screen. The customer's row shows the new email address and Row updated Reload search. Reload the page to see the full list again.
The customer's orders, notes, addresses, date of birth and activity stay on the record under the new email address.
If the old email address had a hard bounce, the hard bounce stays with the old address, so WithWine sends marketing emails to the new address.
What the customer needs to do after you change the email address
Your website: the customer logs in with the new email address. The customer needs to set a new password, because the email address and password combination has changed.
The WithWine app: the customer must log in to the app with the new email address to see your winery's orders and history. If the customer stays logged in to the app with the old email address, your winery's content won't show there any more. Content from other wineries that use the old email address still shows.
Troubleshooting
I typed the new email address wrong. Do the steps again from the customer's record and migrate to the correct address.
The customer still shows the old email address. Reload the Customers screen.
The customer can't see their orders in the WithWine app. The customer is logged in to the app with the old email address. Ask the customer to log in to the app with the new email address.
I see "The new email address already exists as a customer." The new email address already belongs to another customer, so WithWine didn't change anything. To combine the two accounts, see How to merge two customer accounts into one. Otherwise, check the new email address with the customer.
