The Cart block is a block in the WithWine email builder that puts a ready-made shopping cart inside an email. You choose the wines, the quantity of each wine and, if you like, a coupon code. Customers see the wines as product cards with a Proceed to Checkout button.
When a customer clicks the button, the customer goes straight to your WithWine checkout with those wines, quantities and coupon already in the cart. The customer doesn't have to visit your website, find the wines, add them to a cart or find the checkout. The customer only has to check the order and pay.
Most email tools can only link to a website, so customers still have to find the wines and add them to a cart themselves. The WithWine Cart block skips those steps: one click from the email opens a filled checkout. The Cart block is built into the WithWine email builder, so there's no separate tool, plugin or extra fee.
Use the Cart block when you want customers to buy a specific selection, for example a new release six-pack, a mixed dozen, a reorder of a wine customers bought before, a club member add-on, or a limited-time coupon on a set of wines.
What happens when a customer clicks the cart button
Wines and quantities: the checkout shows only the wines and quantities from the Cart block. The customer can change the quantities at checkout.
Prices: the checkout works out each customer's price automatically. When the customer is logged in, club member prices and any other prices the customer is entitled to apply automatically. See How does WithWine work out a customer's price at checkout?
Coupon: the coupon is applied automatically, as long as the coupon is still valid.
Out-of-stock wines: if a wine in the cart is out of stock, or set to out of stock, the checkout won't let the customer continue.
Going back to the website: if the customer leaves the checkout, goes to your website cart and returns to the checkout, the checkout shows the website cart instead.
The Cart block creates the checkout link for you. You don't need to build or edit the link.
Before you start
Open your email on the Design Email step of the email builder. See How to design an email in the email builder.
The wines must already exist as products in WithWine, and should be in stock.
If you want a coupon, create the coupon first and check the coupon's dates and rules suit the cart. See How to create a coupon code.
How to add a Cart block
Click + where you want the cart and choose Cart. (The Product Feature template already includes a Cart block.)
Click the Cart block to open the Cart block settings in the Inspect tab.
How to add wines and set quantities
In Products, search for the wine and add it.
Use the quantity stepper to set how many bottles go into the cart.
Repeat for each wine.
Important: the quantity for a new wine starts at 0, and a wine with a quantity of 0 doesn't show in the email. Set every wine to at least 1.
Drag a wine's row to change the order of the wines in the email. Click the trash icon to remove a wine.
How to change a wine's wording for this email
By default the Cart block uses the product's title, subtitle and description. To change the wording for this email, for example to add "Only 40 cases left", click Show more under Products, then Customize Product Fields, and change the Title, Subtitle or Description.
How to choose what each product card shows
In Product Items Configuration, under Show/Hide Elements, turn Title, Subtitle, Description, Image and Quantity on or off. All five are on by default.
The Cart block doesn't show prices, because each customer's price is worked out at checkout and club members can pay different prices from other customers. If you mention a price in the description or a Text block, make clear who the price applies to.
How to show wines side by side
In Product Items Configuration, click Show more. Under Card Layout, choose Products Per Row: 1 Column (the default) up to 6 Columns. Three columns suit a three-wine offer. More columns make each card narrow, so check the mobile view in Preview.
How to change the layout of each product card
Under Card Layout, choose a Product Layout:
Horizontal (the default): text on the left, image on the right. Suits 1 column.
Vertical: text centred above the image. Suits 2 or more columns.
Horizontal (Reverse) and Vertical (Reverse): the same layouts with the order reversed.
How to make product cards the same height
When wines have different amounts of text, cards in a row can end up different heights. Under Product Container Style, set Height (px). The default is 0, which means each card is as tall as its content. For a three-column cart, around 420px lines the cards up. Adjust until the cards look even.
How to change card colours, borders and corners
Under Product Container Style:
Background Color: the colour inside each card.
Border Color: the line around each card.
Border Radius (px): how rounded the corners are. The default is 8; 0 gives square corners.
Click the × next to a colour to remove the colour. You can also style the title, subtitle, description and image separately under Title Style, Subtitle Style, Description Style and Image Style.
How to add a coupon
In Coupon Code, search for an existing coupon and select it.
Each Cart block can have one coupon. The email shows "Coupon Applied" with the code, and the coupon is applied at checkout automatically. The coupon's own rules still apply: an expired coupon isn't applied, and if a customer types an expired code at checkout, the checkout shows an error.
How to change the button
In Cart Button, change the Text. The default is Proceed to Checkout. Specific labels work well, such as "Buy the Shiraz six-pack". Click Show more to change the button's style.
How to change the box around the cart
Container style sets the Background Color behind the whole cart and the Padding (space inside the box) for the top, bottom, left and right. The defaults are 20, 20, 30 and 30 px.
How to put more than one cart in an email
You can add more than one Cart block to an email. Each Cart block has its own wines, quantities, coupon and button, so you can offer choices, such as a mixed six and a straight six of Shiraz. Give each cart button a different label so customers know which cart each button opens.
What happens next
Send a test email and click the cart button to check the wines, quantities and coupon at checkout. See How to send a test email.
Everyone who receives the email gets the same wines, quantities and coupon. Each customer's price is worked out at checkout.
Troubleshooting
A wine doesn't show in the email. The wine's quantity is 0. Set the quantity to 1 or more.
A customer can't continue at checkout. A wine in the cart is out of stock or set to out of stock. The customer can remove the wine, or you can restock the wine.
The coupon didn't apply. Check the coupon hasn't expired, then check the coupon's other rules, such as minimum quantity and which products the coupon applies to. See Why is a coupon code not working?
A club member didn't get club pricing. Club pricing applies when the checkout knows the customer. Check the customer is logged in with the email address on the customer's WithWine record.
The customer saw a different cart at checkout. The customer went to the website cart after clicking the email. Ask the customer to click the button in the email again.
The cards are different heights. Set Height (px) under Product Container Style.
The cards look squashed on a phone. Use fewer columns, shorten the descriptions, or use the Vertical layout.
