When a coupon code doesn't work, WithWine either shows a message saying why, or accepts the code but gives no discount. This article explains both.
Error messages and what they mean
"Coupon with this code does not exist.": the code is wrong, or the coupon is limited to a different Channel, or the customer isn't in the coupon's customer group (or isn't logged in). Codes aren't case-sensitive, but check for spaces before or after the code.
"This coupon is not applicable to any of the qualifying products.": none of the coupon's required products is in the cart.
"A minimum of 6 qualifying products is required for this coupon.": the cart has some of the coupon's required products, but fewer than its Minimum Required Product Quantity. Other products don't count.
"A minimum of 12 bottles is required for this coupon.": the cart has fewer bottles than the coupon's Minimum Order Bottle Quantity. Merchandise doesn't count as bottles.
"A minimum order total of 100.00 is required for this coupon.": the products add up to less than the coupon's Minimum Order Total. Shipping doesn't count, and the total is after club and other discounts.
"This coupon has already expired.": the coupon's end date has passed.
"This coupon is currently unavailable.": the coupon's start date hasn't arrived yet.
"Sorry, this coupon is no longer valid.": the coupon's Active? is set to No.
"Coupon has reached its usage limit and is no longer available.": the coupon's Redemption count limit has been reached, in total or for this customer.
A coupon can have several minimums. The customer sees one message at a time, so after fixing one, they may see the next.
The code is accepted but there's no discount
This happens without any message. The usual reasons:
The customer already has a cheaper price. WithWine always gives the cheapest price. If the customer's club price, 6-bottle price, quantity price or customer group price is lower than the coupon's price, they keep it. For example, 6 Shiraz at $195 for 6 get nothing from a 15% coupon, and a $30 off coupon on $270 of Shiraz still costs more than $195. To make the coupon come off those prices too, see What does Applies to Already Discounted Prices do on a coupon?
The product to discount isn't in the cart. A coupon that discounts a Different Selection product, such as a free Rosé, only works once the customer adds that product.
Another coupon replaced it. If one of the coupons can't be combined, WithWine keeps only the coupon that saves the customer the most. See How do auto apply and combining coupons work?
The fixed price is higher than the normal price. A Fixed price coupon only helps if the fixed price is lower. See What are the coupon discount types?
It's a shipping-only coupon and shipping is already free, or it's a pick up order. There's no shipping to discount.
How to check a coupon
Open the customer in Customers and click Create Order.
Add the same products the customer had.
Enter the code in Enter Coupon (Optional) and click Apply.
Check the message, or the Order Summary and the price of each product.
Close the panel without placing the order.
