The Discount type on a coupon sets how the product discount is worked out. There are four options: None, Percentage, Fixed discount and Fixed price.
The examples below use a Riesling at $32, a Rosé at $28, a Shiraz at $45, a magnum at $110 and a T-shirt at $35.
None
Gives no product discount. Use None with a Shipping discount type for a shipping-only coupon. See How to give free or cheaper shipping with a coupon
Percentage
Takes a percentage off each product the coupon applies to. Enter the percentage in Discount (%).
Example: 10% off. 2 Shiraz and a T-shirt: Shiraz $90 becomes $81, T-shirt $35 becomes $31.50.
Fixed discount
Takes one dollar amount off the order. Enter the amount in Fixed Discount ($).
The amount comes off once per order, not once per bottle. $5 off 3 Shiraz is $5 off in total ($135 becomes $130).
WithWine takes it off the most expensive product the coupon applies to first. If the amount is more than that product, the rest comes off the next product. Example: $50 off a Shiraz and a Rosé: the Shiraz becomes $0 and the Rosé becomes $23.
The discount can't be more than the products it applies to, and it doesn't come off shipping.
Fixed price
Sells products at a set price each. The most common use is a free bottle: set the price to $0. Fill in two fields:
Fixed Price Amount: the price of each product, for example $0 for free, or $25.
Fixed Price Quantity: the most products in one order that get that price, for example 1.
Example: free Rosé. Fixed Price Amount 0, Fixed Price Quantity 1, applying to the Rosé: one Rosé in the order is free. If the customer adds 2 Rosé, one is free and one is $28.
Example: Riesling at $25 each, quantity 3: 3 Riesling cost $75. A fourth Riesling is the normal $32.
Important things to know about Fixed price:
Fixed Price Amount is the price of each product, not the price of the whole group. For "3 for $75", enter $25 and quantity 3, not $75.
Fixed Price Quantity is a maximum, not a minimum. To make it "buy 3", choose the products in Required Products in Order and set Minimum Required Product Quantity to 3. See How to make a coupon that only works with certain products
For a free bottle with a purchase, choose the products the customer must buy in Required Products in Order, and the free product in Applies To Products > Different Selection.
If the fixed price is higher than the normal price, the coupon does nothing for that product.
Always choose products. If you don't, the fixed price goes on the most expensive products in the cart. Example: $20, quantity 1, no products chosen: a customer buying a Shiraz, a Rosé and a $110 magnum gets the magnum for $20.
Which discount does the customer get?
WithWine always gives the customer the cheapest price they're entitled to, product by product. If the customer already has a cheaper price, such as a club price or a 6-bottle price, the coupon doesn't change that product. To make the coupon come off those prices as well, see What does Applies to Already Discounted Prices do on a coupon?
Troubleshooting
A Percentage coupon didn't discount some products: the customer already had a cheaper price on them, or they aren't in the coupon's products.
A Fixed discount is smaller than expected: the products it applies to added up to less than the discount amount, or the customer already had cheaper prices.
A Fixed price coupon gives no discount: the product it applies to isn't in the cart, or the fixed price is higher than the normal price.
