How to set a shipping rate for a customer group

Give a customer group its own shipping rate, such as flat-rate or free shipping for trade customers or locals.

You can give a customer group its own shipping rate, for example free shipping for trade customers or a cheaper rate for locals. You do this by adding a shipping rate and ticking the customer group in the Customer Group column.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Go to Settings > My Brand > Shipping and open Rates.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Click Add Rate.

  4. Tick the shipping zone or zones the rate applies to, and set the order contents it applies to, as you would for any rate.

  5. In the Customer Group column, tick the customer group.

  6. Set the rate, for example $0 for free shipping.

  7. Click Done.

  8. Use the up and down arrows to move the customer group's rate above your general rates for the same zone.

  9. Click Save.

What happens next

  • WithWine checks shipping rates from top to bottom and uses the first rate that matches the order. Because the customer group's rate is higher in the list, customers in the customer group get that rate, and everyone else falls through to your general rates.

  • WithWine checks the customer group at each order, so customers who join or leave the customer group get the right rate on their next order.

  • On the website, customers need to be logged in so WithWine knows which customer groups they belong to.

Troubleshooting

  • Customers in the customer group get the normal rate: the customer group's rate is probably below a general rate that also matches. Move the customer group's rate higher in the list and save.

  • Everyone gets the customer group's rate: check the customer group is ticked in the Customer Group column for that rate.
