How long does credit last before it expires?

All credit in WithWine has an expiry. For credit you give away for free (loyalty credit and manual credit), you choose the expiry. For gift cards, which customers pay for, the law sets a minimum expiry period.

You set how long loyalty credit lasts in Settings > Loyalty & Credit, in the Loyalty Program section, under Credit earned has an expiry of. The default is 12 months. See How to set up your loyalty program.

When you give a customer manual credit, you choose when that credit expires. Manual credit is free for the customer, so it can expire as soon as you like.

Gift cards are purchased credit: the customer has paid for them. In Australia and the United States, the law sets a minimum expiry period for gift cards.

Australia: gift cards sold on or after 1 November 2019 must be valid for at least 3 years. The expiry date must be clearly shown on the gift card, and most fees after purchase are banned. Some gift cards and vouchers are excluded. See New gift card laws (consumer.gov.au).

United States: under the federal Credit CARD Act of 2009, gift cards can't expire sooner than 5 years after the date they were issued or the date money was last loaded onto them, whichever is later. Some states have stricter rules. For example, California generally doesn't allow gift cards to expire. Check your state's rules.
