What to try if your WisePOS E, S700 or S710 won't connect

How to fix a BBPOS WisePOS E, Stripe Reader S700 or S710 that won't connect to Vintner, usually a network problem.

The BBPOS WisePOS E, Stripe Reader S700 and Stripe Reader S710 are smart readers that connect to the internet themselves. Vintner finds them over your network, so most connection problems are network problems.

Checks to try, in order

  1. Update your iPad or iPhone. Vintner needs iOS 26 or later on iPhone, or iPadOS 26 or later on iPad. Open the Settings app, tap General > Software Update, and install any update. If your device can't update to version 26, it's too old to use with Vintner.

  2. Update the Vintner app. Open the App Store, tap your profile picture, and update Vintner if an update is listed.

  3. Put the reader and the iPad or iPhone on the same network. The reader and the device running Vintner must be on the same Wi-Fi network. A guest network or a second Wi-Fi network at the cellar door won't work.

  4. Check Vintner's permissions. Open the Settings app, scroll down and tap Vintner. Check that Local Network is on and Location is set to While Using the App. Without local network access, Vintner can't find a smart reader on your Wi-Fi. Without location access, Vintner can't connect to any card reader.

  5. Check the Wi-Fi type. The reader needs a password-protected WPA-Personal or WPA2-Personal network. It doesn't work on open networks, enterprise networks (where you sign in with a username) or IPv6-only networks.

  6. Check the network allows the reader through. Some business firewalls block card readers. Ask whoever manages your network to check Stripe's network requirements.

  7. Restart the reader. Turn it off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on.

  8. Let the reader update. If the reader shows it's updating, keep it plugged in and turned on until it finishes. Leaving the reader plugged in and on overnight lets it update automatically.

  9. Try Ethernet. If Wi-Fi is unreliable, connect the reader to your network with a cable using the dock (WisePOS E) or hub (S700 and S710).

  10. S710 only: check the mobile connection. The S710 uses mobile data only when Ethernet and Wi-Fi aren't available. Poor mobile coverage can make it slow or unable to connect.
