Product variations link different sizes of the same wine together. For example, your 750ml bottle (the parent product) can have a magnum and a glass linked to it (the child products). Linked products show together on POS and on your website.
This is an advanced feature. Each child is its own product with its own price and settings.
Before you start
The parent and child products must be the same product type, for example all bottles.
A child product can't have variations of its own.
Decide whether each child uses the parent's stock. A glass usually does: selling glasses reduces the bottle's stock. A magnum usually has its own stock.
Step 1: Create the child product
Go to Settings > Products > Bottles, click + Add Bottle, then + Add New Wine.
Enter the child's details, for example Barossa Valley Shiraz Glass, with the same vintage as the parent.
Enter its own Full Price, for example the price of a glass.
Set List your wine for sale? to Yes.
Set Online Availability. For a glass sold only at your cellar door, leave it as Not Available. For a magnum you sell online, choose Everyone.
Click Product Variations and choose the child's Variation Type, for example Glass (150ml) or Magnum.
If the child has its own stock (for example a magnum), turn on stock tracking in the Stock section. If the child uses the parent's stock (for example a glass), leave stock tracking off.
Click Save.
Step 2: Link the child to the parent
Go to Settings > Products > Bottles and click the parent product, for example the 750ml bottle.
Click Product Variations to open the section.
Set the parent's own Variation Type, for example 750ml.
Click Add Product Variation. A new row appears.
Start typing the child's name and click it in the list.
Choose the child's variation type, for example Glass (150ml).
If the child uses the parent's stock, tick Use Stock from Parent and enter how many children come from one parent. For example, 1 parent stock = 5 variation stock for 150ml glasses, or 1 = 3 for 250ml glasses.
Click Save on the row.
Click Save at the bottom of the parent product.
What happens next
The child shows in the parent's Product Variations list, with Use Parent Stock? and the stock ratio.
With Use Stock from Parent ticked, each child sold reduces the parent's stock by its share. For example, selling three 250ml glasses (1 = 3) reduces the 750ml bottle's stock by 1.
To change or remove a link, click Edit Settings or Delete on the child's row in the parent product.
