How to give every imported customer the same value with Import all as

Use Import all as... on the customer import screen to give every customer in your CSV file the same value, such as a tag, without adding a column.

When you import customers, you can give every customer the same value for a field without adding a column to your CSV file. Choose Import all as... in the field's dropdown and type the value.

When to use Import all as...

  • Tag everyone in the file, for example "Long lunch 2026", so you can find this group of customers later.

  • Set the same Country for everyone, for example AU.

  • Add everyone to your mailing list by setting Is Mailing List Subscriber to YES, if they have agreed to hear from you.

Use Import all as...

  1. On the Customers screen, click + Import Customers CSV and choose your CSV file. See How to import customers from a CSV file.

  2. Find the field you want to set, for example Tags.

  3. In the field's dropdown, choose Import all as.... A text box appears under the dropdown.

  4. Type the value every customer should get, for example Long lunch 2026. To give everyone several tags, separate them with commas.

  5. Finish setting up the rest of the fields, then click Import.

In this example, every imported customer gets the tag Long lunch 2026:

Example: tag a list of email addresses as VIP

You don't need every column in your CSV file. For example, to tag a group of existing customers as VIP:

  1. Make a CSV file with one column, Email, listing the customers' email addresses.

  2. Import the file. In the Tags dropdown, choose Import all as... and type VIP.

  3. Leave every other field as None, then click Import.

Each customer gets the VIP tag, and their other details stay as they are. Because tags are merged, VIP is added to any tags they already have.

Things to know

  • When you choose Import all as..., WithWine uses the value you typed for every row and ignores that column in your file.

  • The value must use the same format as the field, for example YES/NO for Is Mailing List Subscriber, or yyyy-MM-dd for dates.
